Shoes, Orphans, Kenya, and the Gospel

By God’s grace and for the sake of His Great Name, I have the privilege of traveling to Fiwagoh Orphanage in Nakuru, Kenya on October 28th-November 4th.  One Way Ministries through their partnership with Soles4Souls are providing 160 pairs of shoes as part of sharing the gospel throughout the world.

Pastor Benson Nganga, a former orphan founded Fiwagoh in 2003.  He had experienced the freedom and love found in Christ and then stepped out in faith to care for other orphans.  Along with his wife, Florence, they started by adopting one.  Their ministry grew to 8 orphans and then 23.  Today, Fiwagoh ministers to over 140 orphans as well as ministering in the surrounding area to the impoverished.

Fiwagoh’s motto is “foster a needy child, train them for eternity.”  Through biblical teaching, mentoring, and a loving home environment they are accomplishing their goal by the grace of God.  Fiwagoh is also actively serving in the local community leading Bible studies and planting local churches.

Why shoes?  Most if not all of these children have been given handed down shoes.  Pastor Benson shared that shoes are one of the greatest needs of the orphanage, however,  the cost has been too high to undertake the project.  Through the gracious generosity of Soles4Souls and One Way Ministries vision, God is faithfully meeting the needs at Fiwagoh.

In my time with Pastor Benson and Fiwagoh, we will distribute shoes to all the children on Sunday, October 30th.  I will also have the opportunity to teach music and minister with Pastor Benson in the local churches.  Please pray that Jesus Christ would be exalted and He would draw those children to Himself.

The cost of the trip is $2400 which includes airfare, one night’s stay in Nairobe, supplies for the trip, and the handling fee for the shoes.  All donations are tax deductible.  There is no donation too small.  There are two ways to contribute:

1. Send a check to One Way Ministries 105 Silver Leaf Lane, Alabaster, AL 35007 and in the memo line write, Kenya.  2.  Online www.1wayministries.org and click the donate button.  This will allow you to donate using Paypal.  Please write Kenya in the note to sender box if donating online.  Each donation will receive tax documentation from One Way Ministries in January 2012.

In closing, I ask you to remember me in your prayers.  Hosea 10:12 ESV Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap steadfast love; break up your fallow ground, for it is the time to seek the LORD, that he may come and rain righteousness upon you.

I am a believer and follower of Jesus Christ. I am embracing the brokenness of my sin and sin nature, that apart from God through the work of Jesus Christ, I can do nothing. I am a work in progress surrounded by people who love the Lord. I want to know my story and be able to see Christ and myself in others.
